We support the following schools in Mugurameno Village:
Mugurameno Basic School
Mugurameno Basic School has 7 teachers and over 500 pupils, many of whom are orphans and several have AIDS. Most children travel by foot many miles to school everyday and class sizes are 40 or more. There are very basic facilities; the four classrooms are built out of concrete with corrugated metal roofing. There is no electricity and water is provided from a communal hand pump. The school has limited educational material.
Mugurameno Community School
Members of the community built Mugurameno Community School in September 2005 as they recognised the need for nursery education for children aged 3-6. During our first visit to the nursery we were made very welcome by Ernest, their teacher, who let us watch his lessons and listen to the children sing. The energy and enthusiasm shown by Ernest and the children blew us away. With very few resources Ernest manages to teach basic literacy and maths to the children to prepare them for their first year at the basic school. Subsequently we have developed a very strong relationship with Ernest and have worked with him to provide the children with school uniforms, reading books and stationery.
