2004 - Toilet Facilities

When we first visited Mugurameno in December 2003 we were shocked to find that the school had only one latrine, a hole in the ground 50 yards away for the staff and pupils.

MBSCT commintted straight away to building the school new toilets. The costs were higher than originally expected due to the transportation of materials into such a rural community. Thankfully due to a huge fundraising drive we managed to complete the project and we were able to complete the building of 12 latrine units.

At a ceremony held at the school on June 2005, HRH Chieftainess Chiawa thanked the trustees of the charity for all that had been achieved so far. Governement minister and Department of Education officials attended and were fully supportive of the project. The school is now delighted with its new facililties.

The next phase for our building project was to improve the facilties at Mugurameno as we were aware that much of the existing buildings were in bad repair. The Head Teachers house had been constructed in 1965 and the roof was leaking and the walls needed to be termite treated. Staff were in also in need of new toilets and a shower unit and the current kitchen was falling apart. Building work took about 6 months and we were delighted to see the finished work during our visit in July 2006.
